My dog doesn't like having his nails clipped. After doing some research I came up with this dremel as it has two power speeds, is cordless, is rechargeable and is fairly light weight. I've since used it on our dog several times and it is quite effective. Having the ability to switch speeds when I am concerned that the nail is getting "hot" is excellent.



I don't know how someone could say the battery life is short - I've left mine out for a couple of weeks only to pick it up and have it be just as effective. I only wish that it came with more of the standard bits so I am knocking off a point. In the meantime, I'm on the lookout for any project that I can use it on using one of those funky other sanding heads.

The first time I tried this on my puppy, it was an absolute nightmare. She hated the noise and was yelping bloody murder. I was disappointed, and ordered a normal nail clipper on Amazon. She was much more at ease with the nail clipper and getting her feet handled through treats after each nail trimming. However, I was disappointed at how the nail clipper crushed her nails instead of cut it. So, I went back to the Dremel and turned it on "low." I left it running with her on my lap and then gently tapped her nails, which followed by more treats. Here are a few tips:



1) Start off with a nail clipper, so your puppy will get used to getting her feet handled. If it's the first time, the goal is not really to cut the dog's nails, but only to acquaint them with the tool and handling

2) Always follow each nail trimming with a reward/treat, and then gradually increase it to each paw.

3) Don't file a nail down too long, because the heat friction against the quick can hurt the dog. I move from nail to nail and then come back to shorten it.

4) Staying on "low" takes a little more time, but you retain control.

5) Make sure you get the dog hair out of the way. I read somewhere that you can use a sock to cover the paw so that you are only getting the nail.

6) Be patient and try again, because it is worth it. A normal nail clipper leaves sharp jagged edges.



In particular, I love this Dremel, because it's affordable, cordless, easy to use, and compact. Plus, it's Dremel. What more can I say?

I can't complain about the construction of the tool or anything, but if you want it for removing callus you would be better off getting something with specialized bits. I haven't looked, but I suppose someone (possibly Dremel) makes a bits suitable for foot care...this does not come with one.

Love this little dremel! Sometimes I use the high speed, sometimes the low speed, but my dogs have never had nails that are so short or so soft. I've used the Pedipaws, but it doesn't have enough power to get my big standard poodle's heavy black nails. This works great, hopefully I'll be able to work the quicks shorter by using it frequently. The best thing is that my dog doesn't mind having it done. A few treats and they're begging to have their nails done.

Most Leaf vac/blowers have a plastic impeller. If you are looking for a good vac that mulches the leaves, this is a good investment. The impeller on this tool is metal with mulching heads integrated into the impeller. Other vacs that I owned, with plastic impellers, did a poor job of mulching and the impeller would break if you sucked up stones or even acorns.

I primarily wanted a leaf blower, but I got this because of the vacuum ability. The leaf blower part is great - it is powerful, flexible (because of the variable speed) and reasonably light. I use ear-plugs so the noise doesn't really bother me. I haven't yet encountered the leaf - even soaking wet - that can stand up to its force. The vacuum part, well, that's only so-so. I have a heavily wooded property and consequently a lot of leaves. and there are always some amount of small twigs mixed in. The vacuum on this unit is nice because of the metal impeller, but in my case it gets clogged very easily, and it's always because of the twigs. Also, it's fairly awkward to clear the clog. It has never hurt the unit, just stopped it. The vacuum does work, but for my purposes it's just not that practical. With dry leaves that don't have many twigs mixed in, I'm sure it would work much better. I have a gas-powered leaf shredder anyway, so no big deal. I do use the vacuum occasionaly to get small piles of leaves in and around gardens and bushes, but not for the heavy-duty stuff.

Did I mention that it has a metal impeller? LOL, I hear the rocks dinging and chinking but I don't worry. Oak leaves are pretty stout and this thing sucks them up with ease, even wet. The bag fills rather quickly so be prepared to dump alot. When sucking leaves the cord attaches towards the front of the unit, awkward but nothing to complain about. Of course the trick is to rack all your leaves into medium size piles then start suckin'
